What are fine art giclee reproductions?

Giclee printing provides for the highest quality fine art graphics with rich colors in the tradition of original lithography.  Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay), a French term meaning "spray of ink", is a process that utilizes the IRIS printer, the most sophisticated digital printer for fine art to date. Pushing the leading edge of art printmaking, digital printmaking has earned its reputation as one of the most creative mediums available to today's working artists. Its capabilities of range and responsiveness are virtually unparallel in the fine art world. The prints it produces are well known for their color density, saturation and brilliance.

What is your satisfaction and return policy?

Purchasing art on-line offers many advantages to the purchaser, most notably a favorable price relative to a gallery.  However, not seeing the finished piece in person to see the detail quality can cause some level of hesitation in committing to a purchase.  Complicating the quality issue is that computer monitors are not necessarily accurately calibrated to present color exactly the same as in printed form.

My policy is to make sure you are 100% completely satisfied.  Simply stated, I will refund your money within 5 business days of delivery if the painting does not meet your expectations.

How long will it take to deliver the artwork?

Since a third-party is involved with ensuring quality printing, I can only provide a rough estimate of delivery within 2 weeks for canvas and about 1 week for prints.  Canvas turnaround includes my application of texture glazing and any painted highlights I may add for enhanced vibrancy to the finished work.  To the extent I have inventory on-hand, shipment can occur within days.  I will promptly notify you if a delay is expected.

How can I review detail close-ups?

Reviewing an on-line image of a painting will give you a very good representation of the finished piece when viewed several feet away.  However, the character of art is often revealed in the texture and brush strokes when seen closer.  If you wish to see this level of detail, I can e-mail to you a section of the painting at 100% resolution.  The images on-line are too small if you attempt to do this.

What is meant by image size?

If you visit the Purchase link, you will see the available image sizes for each painting.  The image size refers to the size of the actual painted image or said differently, the image size excludes any surrounding border added for matte/framing convenience.  For canvas, an additional 2 inch border is added for stretching over a frame.  The paper prints include a 1 inch border around each image (example: 16x20 image will be a print sheet size of 18x22 with a 1" border).

Can you order different sizes than what is available under the Catalogue link?

In general, I try to be flexible within reason.  I can get prints produced for any image size less than the maximum size.  However, I cannot change the horizontal and vertical proportionality of the image size to meet some standard framing size.  Standard frame sizes can often be achieved with the surrounding matting process done at a quality frame shop.  I  will accommodate image size  changes on a exception basis.

What can I expect from my giclee print?

Your Giclee print is reproduced with the finest, economical materials to ensure quality to an original painting.  Printed canvas includes a final artist applied texture glazing to enhance brushstrokes and add luminosity.  A 2" canvas border is added to the image size for stretching over a frame.   (Note: A canvas is shipped un-stretched.  The appearance is significantly enhanced when stretched over a stretcher-strip frame and even more so when finally framed for display.  I sometimes get requests for returns even before the customer has visited a quality framing shop.)

Giclee prints are also available on enhanced textured watercolor paper.  All paper prints will have a 1" border added to the image size dimensions for framing convenience. This watercolor paper is the best at capturing detail and color variations.  The quality becomes apparent when framed under glass.  All canvas and watercolor prints include a limited edition certificate of authenticity and count toward the series of twenty unless noted.  Both canvas and prints have a stated indoor longevity, based on the ink dyes and lamination, of over 100 years.
